ATLIS Releases 2026 Compensation Benchmark Report for Independent School Technology Leaders

ATLIS Updates,

The Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools (ATLIS) today announced the release of its 2026 Compensation Benchmark Report, which shows a 5% increase in average salaries for school technology professionals. The average salary for participants reached $112,661, following a slight decrease in the previous year.

This annual report, a strategic partnership with 12M & Ed Tech Recruiting, tracks a cumulative 21% increase in average salaries since 2019. However, the 2026 data also identifies a significant trend: the pay gap between male and female technology leaders has widened to more than $17,000.

"The 2026 findings show a clear upward trend in compensation for school technology leaders, while also identifying a widening gender pay gap that warrants further analysis," said Christina Lewellen, president and CEO at ATLIS.

Report Highlights:

  • Leadership Differentiation: Senior administrative team members earn an average of $131,612 compared to $100,234 for non-administrators.

  • Retention Drivers: 37% of respondents are likely to seek a new position within two years. Data indicates a strong correlation between satisfaction and work environment.

  • Regional Trends: The Western U.S. continues to report the highest average salaries at $127,066, while the Midwest reported an average of $95,673.

The full 34-page report includes detailed breakdowns by job title, years of experience, and school size. ATLIS members have free access to the report and an interactive dashboard; non-members may purchase the report for $179.
