Four 90-minute, online sessions, weekly on Wednesdays (October 8 - 29)

Register only once, for access to all four sessions.

Registration will remain open through October 29, even after the program has begun.

All sessions will be recorded; registrants will have full access to all four recordings regardless of attendance, including people who register after the program begins.

ATLIS and volunteers for the ATLIS Certification Council designed the TLIS Prep Program to support anyone considering or planning to apply for and attempt to earn the Technology Leaders in Independent Schools (TLIS) certification.

Each week, facilitators will focus on specific aspects of technology leadership as defined by the TLIS certification domains and objectives (see the TLIS Candidate Handbook for complete details). Strategies regarding the online exam itself will also be presented.

Recommended audience

Anyone considering or planning to apply for and attempt to earn the Technology Leaders in Independent Schools (TLIS) certification.

Outcomes

This program aims to expand participants’ understanding of the certification requirements, what to expect on the exam, and how/where to find resources that will help them successfully achieve TLIS certification. 

Schedule

Weekly on Wednesdays, October 8 thru 29, 11:30am-1:00pm Eastern U.S.

All sessions are recorded; registrants receive recording links regardless of attendance.

Agenda

  • Introduce the TLIS domains and lens.
  • Address technology for teaching and learning. Topics include leadership roles, how technology department structures align with school goals, and the impact of policy on the learning environment.
  • Delve into independent school governance and leadership, discussing governance models, strategic planning, and governance structures.
  • Focus on operations, covering budgeting, return on investment, project management, and operations scenarios.
  • Provide participants with insights into professional development planning, instructional design, and test-taking strategies. Topics include differentiating training for staff and the backwards planning model.
  • Review of test-taking tips and the TLIS testing environment.

Tye Campbell, TLIS

Tye Campbell, TLIS

Tye came to Gilman in 2016 from New Jersey, where he had been Director of Technology at Far Hills Country Day School since 2013. Mr. Campbell got his start in information technology (IT) in the corporate world in New York City, where he was IT helpdesk and application support supervisor at Canon Business Process Services. A native of Brooklyn, New York, and graduate of St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire, Tye earned his B.S. in technical management from DeVry University.

Matthew Norko, TLIS

Matthew Norko, TLIS

Matthew Norko has 20 years of technology experience in independent schools, spanning from a small, girls boarding school to a larger PK-12 day school and others in between, having most recently joined Marlborough School in Los Angeles, CA as the Director of Technology. His roles in diverse educational settings have enabled him to address operational needs within technology departments, establish policies and protocols, and strategically plan for the future. Matthew views technology departments primarily through an academic lens while also being sensitive to the parent, staff, and business needs of the specific school community. Matthew holds a B.S. in Information Systems as well as an M.S. in Management of Technology, both from Fairfield University, and is currently a doctoral student at Indiana Wesleyan University. Matthew has served in a variety of volunteer capacities for technology organizations such as ATLIS and ISTE as well as in the communities and schools in which he has lived and worked.

Heather Ramsey, Ed.D, TLIS

Heather Ramsey, Ed.D, TLIS

Heather is a passionate learner and educator who strives to provide teachers and other school staff with exceptional professional learning experiences so they can create life-long learners, and maximize student achievement and engagement in learning. She is an instructional designer and educational technologist with pre-K through college-level teaching experience: elementary classroom teacher, technology teacher and coordinator, and community college and university adjunct instructor.

William Stites, TLIS

William Stites, TLIS

William (Bill) Stites is the Director of Technology for Montclair Kimberley Academy. In addition to his role at MKA, he is a senior collaborator with Educational Collaborators, an ATLIS Pillar Award winner, "blogger-in-chief" for edScoailMedia, and is on the advisory board for the MarCom Society. He is a frequent presenter on topics ranging from data management, organization, privacy, and security, to cybersecurity, information management, and communications.

Louis Tullo, M.Ed., TLIS

Louis Tullo, M.Ed., TLIS

Louis Tullo, M.Ed., serves as the Chief Information Officer at Ravenscroft School and has extensive experience as a technology leader in both corporate and education sectors since 2013. Leveraging his technical background, he has effectively streamlined infrastructure and technology operations in independent schools while driving innovative curricular and instructional design strategies. As a member of the E.E. Ford Design Team for FolioCollaborative, he helped enhance their professional growth platform, myFolio. Louis actively contributes to ATLIS, where he has been a recurring presenter at their annual conference, a mentor in their professional development program, and a contributor to their publication, Access Points. Additionally, he currently serves as a member of the TLIS Certification Council, collaborating with other independent school technology leaders to establish a credentialing program. Louis's academic pursuits include completing a research project on the impact of self-regulation on procrastination in 7th and 10th-grade students while earning his M.Ed. at UNC Charlotte.
